Maho Beach is a beach on the Dutch side of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, in the country of Sint Maarten.
At a first glance it looks as a beautiful Caribbean beach, with amazing waters and white sand, but if you spend just one day in this paradise you will understand that this place is anything but ordinary: Maho Beach is located near the Princess Juliana International Airport, and this means that all the airplanes landing there fly so closely above the beach that people can be literally blown into the water because of the jet blast (An additional fence has been added recently behind runway 10, in order to prevent people from hanging onto the main fence surrounding the runway to experience being blasted by the jet flow.)
This place has became really popular for plane spotting, and local residents have built a kind of business around it: are in most bars you can find boards displaying daily arrivals and departures airline timetables and the Sunset Bar and Grill has a speaker on its outside deck that broadcasts the radio transmissions between pilots and the airport’s control tower.
Would you like to spend your holidays in a place like this or would you prefer a quieter place?
