Try to read the following poem out loud, and if you can pronounce correctly every word in this poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world.

Some say this is one of the toughest challenges about English ever made, and I personally had some troubles reading it.

This poem is called The Chaos, and was originally written by Dutch writer Gerard Nolst Trenité, who wanted to prove the extreme irregularity of the English language.

Share it with your friends on Facebook and see if they are able to read this “impossible poem” aloud!

  1. Yeah like seriously – who has the patience to read it all? I did quite well at the first half than got truly bored.

  2. Meaningless except for the underlying factor of english being the poorest language in terms of consistency in its rules. As A Bilingual speaker, trust me, this is why it is so universal of a language, due to its simplicity and lack of structure. Its really a shame reading this…

  3. I thought I would mess up at least once, and I had somebody who passed it with flying colors next to me, and I did it! So apparently I speak better than 90% of all english speakers, quite a strange thought if you ask me.

  4. I thought it was cute, but I could only say it out loud when I pronounced every word with a British accent, There were a few words I may not have gotten right, but I had to LOL when I pronounced “area” Aria!! LOL, very cute over-all

  5. The challenge was greater than the boredom. But I had to take a break. I would guess I got about 98% of them right, with a small amount of don’t knows and a couple of unsures. To each his or her own; I like to keep up on my literacy.
