Since social distancing is essential at this time, many businesses and organisations have had to limit their number of visitors or even close down completely.

Shedd Aquarium in Chicago has chosen to do the latter; in an effort to help stop the spread of COVID-19, the aquarium has temporarily closed their doors to the public.

But despite this, little feet can still be heard pattering across the aquarium halls.

Shedd Aquarium has decided to take advantage of their temporary break by letting their penguins explore the facility.

The curious and excited little penguins have ben allowed to roam around and check out the other animals and they’ve been having a great time.

The Shedd Aquarium staff have been videoing the penguins’ adventures and posting the clips to social media in an attempt to keep the public engaged and interested.

And it seems to have worked. People are loving the adorable little penguins and the videos have collectively recieved millions of views and thousands of comments and retweets.

Letting the penguins explore the aquarium is not only great entertainment for us watching, but for the penguins themselves, too.

“Without guests in the building, caretakers are getting creative in how they provide enrichment to animals; introducing new experiences, activities, foods and more to keep them active, encourage them to explore, problem-solve and express natural behaviors,” the aquarium explained when speaking to Chicago Tribune.

We’re glad the little guys are enjoying themselves and that we get to enjoy watching them explore.

Watching a penguin marvel at exotic fish definitely takes a bit of the sting out of self-isolating.

Just look at this adorable little explorer:

We’re so ready for the upcoming nesting videos.
